ECO was established in the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) as per the Residential decree no.64 of 2001, Article (3). It liaisons with the FEI members, donor agencies, Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, Research and Development Institutions, and consultants.
A number of chambers of industry currently benefit of ECO services: textile industries, food industries, engineering industries, metallurgical industries, chemical industries, as well as the sector of energy efficiency. The future, on the other hand, shall witness an extension of the outreach by ECO to all other industries.
ECO seeks to disseminate the rules and concepts of compliance by industries with environmental laws in an attempt at improving the efficiency of national industries, while at the same time achieving the environmental and financial returns for the industrial enterprise.
The policy of service-providing by ECO is based on supporting industrial enterprises through a number of measures:
 offering technical consultancy-services
capacity-building of human resources through holding training sessions for factory workers
holding environmental awareness workshops for the industrial community
organizing study-tours for factory owners to get acquainted with cleaner production technologies and applications in industries
providing job opportunities and improving competitiveness of exports, and
Improving the work environment in industrial enterprises for female workers through training women and enrolling them in awareness programs in labor-intensive industries, in addition to the profound interest in disseminating occupational health and safety principles.
ECO offers soft loans for funding industrial instruments used in cleaner production applications, at the value of L.E 3 million, payable on annual installments over a period ranging from one to five years including a one-year grace period at an annual 2.5% interest rate.
